What is Acceleration?

What is Acceleration? Acceleration is how fast an object increases its speed. For example, if a train maintains a constant speed, but never changes speeds, the train has no acceleration. During our lab, we altered the ramp, to make the cart go up the ramp. When we pushed the cart up the ramp, the gravatational pull caused the speed of the cart to increase on the way down, rather on the way up. In that case, the acceleration was faster on the way down, rather when we pushed the cart up the ramp.

Velocity

My house is 5.1 miles from parish, and it took 15 minutes to get from my house to the school including stop signs and red lights. The way you find average speed of something is Distance traveled over Time of Travel. So it will be 5.1mi over 15min = 34mi/min

Pendulum Lab Conclusion

Based off the data, our hypothesis was correct. As we lengthened our string, the time did get bigger. Even though every testing did not show dramatic difference, the difference by itself was all we needed to prove our hypothesis correct. We learned that if you alter one variable (length), then the other variable (time) will be affected because of the altering of the first variable.

Pendulum Lab Methodology

During the Pendulum lab, our group used a 200g mass and string to prove or disprove our hypothesis, which was: As the length of the string gets bigger, the time also gets bigger. In the experiment, we swung the 200g mass, which was hooked onto a string hanging from the ceiling. We swung the mass back and fourth three times, took the times, and divided the times by three to see how long it took for the mass to swing back and fourth one time.
